Yeah, Borges just has an old world gentlemanly style and intelligence and makes me feel ...er, connected. Virginia Wolf.. .yeah, been so long since I read anything of hers it'll almost be like reading it anew. Thanks.

Just remembered another couple fav female authors ... Dorothy Parker and Carson Mccullers. Of course there's the one hit wonder, Harper Lee, but everyone loves her!

Alistair is quite good I agree. Space Opera if I remember correctly? I think you will like RKM, his Altered Carbon series is amazing. I've read his entire body of work 4 times now.

And that is a lovely list... brings me back to English 102! So many great books... so little time. Might want to add Burroughs to it (William, not Edgar Rice, heh, though I devoured ERB when a kid, though even then could see the plot holes, heh).

All time ever is Arthur C Clarke!

Some more favourites are Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, Robert Heinlein, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, and for some action/adventure I've not minded a bit of James Rollins.

For a bit of cheese, I've adored Philippa Gregory, Diana Gabaldon (terrible writing style but brilliant characters), Ken Follett, GRRM, Bryce Courtenay...

BOOKS! MOST BOOKS!

ALL THE BOOKS!

ETA: Forgot to add C.S. Lewis in there, mostly for his sci fi, less for fantasy, but I loved the Narnia series too of course
