It depends on mood!

At times, philosophy cracks me up! Other times it is depressing.

Thomas Moore (modern) is good. I also like Tom Robbins. U can't go wrong with Twain. Hunter S. Thompson makes me laugh, as does Palichuck (never can spell his name!).

There is a novel. Couch that is strange and is an honorable mention.

I'll have to peruse my shelves for ideas!

comforting to know that I
am among'st friends.

Friends who are complete
strangers.

I have actually read at least 80%
of the books mentioned and recommended.

This is about the 100 books title,

but I will interject a personal favorite
as number 101.

This is the most wonderful sentiment, and one I absolutely ascribe to. I'm always on the lookout for kinship.

Such a great book! I almost broke down crying reading this to my son the other night. "Unless someone like you cares a whole lot, things are not gonna change.. they're NOT!" (paraphrased but close I think!)

Since you just mentioned herbs, that leads me to food so I want to add Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking Vol. I & II and Il Cucchiaio d'Argento (The Silver Spoon) which is the most influential cookbook in Italian history and a traditional wedding gift. Mine has a handmade cover done by my neighbor who was born in Tuscany (her hometown is in my Italy With Pictures thread).

I left out The Joy of Cooking which is a great beginners cookbook since it has just about every home recipe you'll ever need.

Every culinary journey begins with a flattened soufflé.

I used to be an avid reader, mostly nonfiction. Over the years, I have gotten away from reading the hundreds of volumes I used to read.

Suggestions

1. Holy Bible

2. 1984 by George Orwell

3. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

4. There Is A River by Thomas Sugrue

5. Tao of Physics by Fritjof Capra

6. Gnostic Gospels

7. Celestine Prophecy by Redfield

There are more but these are just off the top of my head.

Funny coincidence (maybe?) I had picked up a copy of the Federalist Papers just a few months ago at the Goodwill, and found the Anti-Federalist Papers there yesterday so grabbed a copy. Should be an interesting look into the ideas and debates which contributed to the creation of our Bill of Rights!
