The German Air Force scrambled two Eurofighter Typhoons to escort the Boeing 777-300, which is thought to have tuned in at the wrong radio frequency.
Footage captured from a British Airways plane flying 2,000 feet above 9W 118 shows the fighters flying alongside the Indian passenger jet. The plane continued along its planned flight path and the fighter pilots managed to restore radio contact just north of Nuremberg using emergency channels.
As a precaution, the two Typhoons continued to escort the plane until it made a safe landing at London Heathrow.
Could be another passenger plane but its speed discounts that. So what was it?

Most likely just missed a frequency change at handover to another controller.
I was close. One pilot was resting, the other switched to the wrong frequency, and had his headset turned down.

Cool footage, thanks. Had me scratching my head but the Mrs pointed out it is a shadow from the closest jet to the cloud. After rewatching a few times, looking at the angle and speed I agree.

I'd say it's another plane, of some sort. Clearly you can hear one of the pilots say "there's the other guy" when it come's into view.

Did you watch the same video? The left side of the plane is lit up from the sun, the shadow moves not fluent from left to right.
My question would be how can that be a shadow?
And on a more disturbing note, here in germany it's not on the news at all?

'Funny, how the topic of this thread is about one thing but it quickly becomes side-tracked about an entirely unrelated aspect with a throwaway explanation for the dark object being tossed out and accepted.
