The question is whether or not those fears have much substance to ground them in or if they've been propped up by a dishonest media and a campaign running on negativity.

I would say there is no question that those fears have been propped up -- even induced -- by a dishonest media and a campaign running on negativity. It's a fact. So the real question is what the rest of us are going to do about it. Are we going to also act in such a way as to prop up these fears? With such anger and contempt and ridicule that they have no reason to believe otherwise?

Or are we going to act with respect and courtesy and, yes, even kindness, and assure them we wouldn't let their worst fears happen even if that were the intention of a Trump administration?

Therefore I now wish to try to sincerely encourage those on the right to consider the following reasons why many on the left are deeply afraid of what they see potentially taking shape, from their point of view at least.

The left are afraid because they assume the right would do the same things as them: bully, abuse, accuse, vilify, and attack (both physically and via media). They know that they would happily round up their opponents at gunpoint if allowed, so they assume the right would do the same.

That's why the left is afraid. They don't realise that normal people wouldn't act like the hard left would act when empowered.
