Excellent choices! Especially for someone who likes Tchaikovsky.

I figured they would be instantly recognizable even to someone who has not listened to classical.

1965 stereo recording of Paganini's 1st concerto played by Michael Rabin

Start there. If you like any of that hit me up and I'll give you more. I've been a concert violinist my whole life.

i'm glad you were suddenly overwhelmed by classical music and that you initiated this thread.

i enjoy all the suggestions, i'm listening and starring here for two days now. a few of my favorites are listed here already and some others became my new favorites.

i hope there is still space in your heart of classical music and that you will also enjoy my two contributions

Requiem For A Dream (Horrific Version)

Dance Macabre (For Violin & Piano) - Camille Saint-Saëns

I like these two.
I've always associated these with Christmas, though neither were composed with that in mind.

I fell in love with this piece. I just found the sheet music for it for cello. I am going to give it a try.

Thanks.

This is a delightful thread and I've more to add... in keeping with the developing theme...

I first heard these two young cellists from eastern Europe on KUSC playing the Bach Double Violin Concerto in D minor. See the 2nd movement here:

... I didn't hear who the artists were and then ...

... someone on ATS posted this wonderful video with very topical political symbology of a Michael Jackson's "They Don't Care About US" (Should be "They Bomb Us All".

and this riff on Rossini's William Tell Overture and Iron Maiden's Trooper:

and back to a more classical theme from 2 Cellos, the lovely:

If I could play like those guys, I would be in 7th heaven. Still struggling over the Gnossienne 1, but it is coming along. I can't practice very much anymore because of misplaced disks to my cervical and lumbar spine, but I do what I can, until it gets to be too much.

I get pleasure out of just playing for myself, and my Mom. She gets a kick out of hearing my lousy playing. Of course, mothers being mothers, it is music to her ears only.
