So I got a new DSLR the other day and have been learning to take photos with it. My dog has been nominated to be my photography model so I can learn the new camera:

Here's my Ginger, doing her best Ben Carson impression:

For some reason she likes to close her eyes and stare at the sun:

Doing that sun thing again, this time pretending to be a "tough dog":

Laying on her blanket, at the end of the couch:

Bonus photos from our walks:

Some flowers:

Some Alaskan Fireweed:

Some peeling crap I saw:

Hopefully I'll catch the dog being a dork when she's laying on her back with her paws up in the air or something soon!

A couple more:

"What human? What now?"

"Now that you've rubbed my belly, I must yawn!"

"I'll do anything for that Dentastix!"

That last one was taken one-handed, so the vibration reduction (optical) really does a pretty good job on the zoom lens!

Cute dog. What kind of DSLR did you buy?

Nikon D7100

It's not new, I got it on ebay, but I figure it's more than enough camera for me!

It does solid video recording too, so I might use it to make movies!

The little face on her when she's offered the dentastix

You can never take (or share) too many dog photos.

Thank you.

I know I should comment on the adorable puppy, but instead here I am, commenting on the "peeling crap".

I did the SAME thing when I first got my DSLR (Nikon D5000
).... nothing was safe! Animals, flowers, inanimate household objects, rusty pipes, peeling paint. I was enchanted by the clarity of the camera!

Jolly good

Few more from just now:

Art dog:

Contemplative dog:

It's raining out, no thanks dog:

Gonzo dog:

They say that just because you get a better camera you won't take better pictures ... but I'm not sure. I seem to be taking a higher ratio of "keepers" with better color, composition, lighting, everything. The pics have more "life" in them. It's like I'm taking little snapshots of time and capturing them in a bottle. For example:

And

And it's not like I had 100 photos to trash. I probably have 3:1 toss/keep ratio at the most. Dunno, its like with my iPhone the pictures never come out as I imagine in my head they should. The new camera though pretty much takes exactly what I see in my mind's eye.

I have two lenses...18mm-55mm and 55mm-200mm. I want to get a 50mm prime, as that seems to be where I like to keep my camera at the most for walking around.

Oh and this dragon fly was FAR away. I had the camera's zoom maxed at 200mm and then I cropped the photo to make it even bigger:

I need to get my eyes checked. I misread the thread title. I thought it was: my new dog Camera. I thought Camera was a weird name for a dog.

Oh good. Thanks. I'm not losing it then.

ETA: I just saw what you put in the edit field. That's funny.
