Trump says he would be willing to debate Sanders. Within minutes Sanders agrees via Twitter.

He did clarify that it was "just in case" when I pointed out that you were probably being sarcastic. If anything, it helps your argument.

Why are you using Venezuela and not one of the countries that is successful with it? And Cuba North Korea and China are not socialist.

People don't know what socialism is.

People don't know what liberal means, either. I blame Ronald Reagan, Glenn Beck and YouTube.

This just devastated the Hillary campaign.

She's being ignored as the presumptive candidate and it further enforces the idea that she'll be indicted.

A brilliant strategy.

Without reading the other comments on this, I'm sure that I can't be the only one thinking that this is a blatant attempt to shoulder Hillary out of the spotlight and bring more attention to Sanders.

Smells like this was planned before it was publicly agreed to.

It's definitely a blow to Hillary. No idea if it was planned beforehand, though. It wouldn't even be necessary. Trump asked Sanders knowing that there was a 100% chance he would accept the debate. Anyone could tell you he'd definitely accept the offer.

People don't know what classical liberalism is, like JFK was. We all have a decent grasp as to how the DNC sees itself these days, and it's reflected in who they choose as the chair of the committee, who they have (and openly embrace) as their presidential candidates, etc.

Modern liberalism became progressives a while ago--it's just that the millennials, who are the loudest voice on social media, are dominating the narrative and taking the party even farther to the left.

But to be fair, the Repubs are doing similar things with their party, and the average American is left wondering who to support because all of the candidates have extreme view that don't match their own.

But if anyone doesn't know what true liberalism is anymore, it's the Democrat party who has usurped the liberal title and quietly replaced the ideals with progressivism...and, yes, some socialist ideas as well.

It's going to be hi-larious in the future when people start using "progressive" as an insult.

Agreed that he would have accepted, regardless. My point is that I think it's a broader plan to exclude Hilary and increase Sanders' appeal to viewers.

And I agree with some on here--I think that Sanders will emerge the winner, as Trump is pretty unintelligent when it comes to many, many aspects of government and exactly what the POTUS has the power to do.

But I hope that none of the three candidates wins the election. Too bad that's not possible, but since one must, I'd go with Bernie, because he at least seems like the most decent, genuine human being of the group, and I don't think that his more socialist ideas would ever make it through congress. I would be, however, concerned about the use of executive orders with Bernie and what he would do with them.

I already consider it a bad ideology, but I wouldn't use it in a derogatory way. Well, unless I'm talking about Flo in the insurance commercials--can't stand her.

...Progress is bad?

I mean, you're obviously going to have people who take it too far. Calling almost literally everything racist/homophobic/anti-minority-thing, whatever it is that's the fad of the month, but every ideology has those nutcases who do ridiculous things.

We all know that "progressivism" is different than making progress. Plus, one person's progress is another person's step in the wrong direction. And it's not always about the progress as much as the tactic used by a government entity to make said progress.

Sanders will destroy him..No Contest.

I hope Sanders has his donor card filled out and his will in a place where people can find it. We will probably also need a death cleanup crew. Trump is going to destroy Sanders, he will cut thru him like a Ginsu knife cutting wet toilette paper.

Trump will hit Sanders so hard it will create a temporal anomaly, next thing you know Bernstien will be spelled Bernstain and McIntire will be McEntire. Volkswagon logos will have a line in the middle. People that died won't be dead. This debate is going to be bananas.

The memes that pop up as a result of this debate will keep Internet trolls busy for thousands of years. Twitter, Facebook, Imgur, et al will probably crash or slow to a crawl and half the routers on the planet will begin to melt.

I take objection to that piece of artwork! It is an abomination! An incorrect mess of absurdity. Trump's hair isn't that realistic.

If socialism is so great why aren't you moving to Venezuela, Cuba, north Korea or china?

I would be happy to move to Scandinavia if I knew the local language.

Trump is going to end up agreeing with a lot of what Bernie says and get a massive swing in voters.

He'll also end up explaining some of his positions better.

If Bernie really doesn't like Trump debating him is the worst thing he can do.

Trump and Sanders agree on a lot of the same problems but they have very different solutions. That actually makes for a better debate, it won't lead to any substantial swing in voters in either direction, but it could get Bernie a few of Hillarys.
