Late starter to this but I've read the entire lot over two days and have just finished the June 1st part.

Yes, "invasive relationship" indeed.

I was also deeply impressed that they were able to post on the 32nd of May.

Yep, that is an especially stylish ad daring post.

While thinking about what "game" the author is referring to I was reminded in a flash of Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions. I thought of this because of the "spatial" way in which the author seems to refer to his own story, in terms of "callbacks" and how they lend a perceived but really non-existent time-line for the story. It seems he's revealed that he is improvising while simultaneously inviting the reader to play a game (?).

I don't know about a "game", that would be quite a step beyond my level of engagement, but according to the interview the author gave to a BBC blogger...

As for the unorthodox way in which the story is appearing, _9MOTHER9HORSE9EYES9 clearly feels Reddit is the perfect platform for his narrative.

"I realized that on the internet, and especially on Reddit, it is possible to intrude on people's realities in a very unexpected way. If you have a bit of a knack for storytelling, you can redirect the thread of a conversation in any direction. With a single, strategically designed comment, a simple debate about cookware can become Klingon erotica. A discussion on urban planning can morph into an Edwardian romance with gay seagulls. The sky is the limit, really."

The story is certainly distinctive and has already gathered thousands of followers. It is now easier to track down as one admirer has collected all the posts in one place in chronological order in a subreddit page called r/9M9H9E9.

...seems to me that they are interested in narrative disruption.

Ooooh - that last sentence in post 75. Tying together the threads now perhaps? I may be misreading though.

I want to know what happens about Q and also what, exactly, is/was Companion 12? And the Nazi camp hasn't been bottomed out yet.

Thanks for capturing that quote, I would have missed it.

I don't know what sort of state of reverie I was in when I saw "game" in that post the 74th. Sorry about that. I think it must have been the author suggesting that a test case could be made to determine whether or not he is pre-planning the story but that he would have to play along to make it work. Not sure I follow the logic but I'm sure it's sound.

Anyhow, I'm eagerly following along.

I have nothing but praise for the author and the writing is superb considering the context (reddit/web/creepypasta/thread-format/dive-bombing other threads).

...seems to me that they are interested in narrative disruption.

Yeah, definitely sociology-lab element to the whole thing.

Since you mention it? It's almost as though the author started with the mind-control theme (MK) almost like a prelude to a symphony of doing-precisely-that, in real-time (remember the revelations about how easy improvisation is from the "candid" post #74), on Reddit, and when we kept reading we happily "bought in".

Genius work.

It's as though he has assessed what elements from the annals of "Conspiracyana" could be mobilized as working web-artifacts and went ahead and just did it.

I'm beyond impressed.

Me too. I am, given the most recent posts, fully assured that the author is a "he" now, there wasn't much doubt, but I don't like to be presumptious about such things.

Some great imagery in 76, reminded me of The Unbearable Lightness of Being in places, without the mirror-defecation thing that is, blurred with the whole Japanese porn theme that runs from earlier in the posts. Nice!

Of course, the problem soon arises with this kind of thing, where you are left hanging for the next fix...

Oh good golly gosh

Post 79.

How the flesh dances and how the flesh plays

How the flesh toils and spins through its days

See the flesh happy and strapping and young

See the flesh sagging and dragging and glum

Just brilliant.

I'm not a stickler for rules...but when the rules are followed by someone with such a gift for writing anyway...well...kind of takes your breath away.

Posts 81 and 82 are miraculous.

As a fan of sci fi and High Fantasy; I am a pig-in-a-trough right now.

This # should take both the Nebula and Hugo for 2016. In both Science Fiction and! Fantasy.

That was some very strong #.

Anyone that has written anything, or has thought about writing anything, will recognize the thin line of sentence structure upon which this expert skates.

It's some very sick #.

I was ready to declare the end of the "Honeymoon" chapters but I am set back on my heels.

Thanks Anaana or keeping us updated!

I've dropped off for a bit so get to play catch up and binge read. Post 81 is killer! All meta dialog and postmodern. In the subject-object kind of way. The meta narrative is colliding in all kinds of strange and fun ways. "We are all characters in somebody else's narrative" in both sense of the "character" (ah, heck, all three senses!): letters (meaning), persona (ego), living in a novel! That is a fun way to view the world.

The writing is getting better, IMO. At times, post 80 in particular, poignantly beautiful.

I continue to be impressed, as are the over 6000 subscribers to the Interface Series.

Just been catching up myself after over a week of limited internet (grrr...but actually has been quite productive so mus'n't grumble).

I'm intrigued to see how they tie it all in together.

It seems that the Interface Series has reached it's conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the introduction to Reddit, a really nice community formed around the author and their work, supportive and generative of creativity. Lots of art and fiction being produced and ideas exchanged. Very nice.

The story itself, towards the end seemed to be more collaborative. I am not sure if there were multiple writers. Others joining in as characters from the narrative. I was only checking in for the main story so I missed a lot of that, and just got confused, so chose to ignore all that.

Over all though, really loved the audacity of it all, and wish the author, or authors, the very best. And if you haven't read it, do.

I liked it (the Final post)! It was almost haiku-like in that having read most of the posts all the feelings are there but muted down and more focused. From the choppy beginning, multiple characters, multiple time lines to have a final post was actually a treat! And that little prayer (for the universe?) tagged on was a nice touch.

"The mysterious tale terrifying reddit" makes me LOL! I wonder if some other board is making a thread about Big Black Triangles puzzling ATS"? See, we are characters in other people's tales!

Thanks Anaana for the great thread! This tale has been fun to read and share! Kept me out of trouble! And it is not about politics!

Yeah, I am doing everything I can to avoid politics. It is so dull and you just wish someone, somewhere would grow a pair and be honest for once. *Sigh*.

I thought the whole thing was marvellous. Particularly the drip feed delivery and the discussions were excellent, some people got really into it. That's the kind of enthusiasm that generates creativity. I wish I had arrived earlier to the party.

Thanks for sharing in it with me here.

Cheers

Life imitating art?

NORTH BEND, Ore. - Five people fell ill from an unknown hazardous material that appears to be spreading by contact and causing hallucinations, the Coos County Sheriff's Office said.

A hazmat team responded to both Bay Area Hospital and a home on East Bay Road as the symptoms spread from a woman to deputies, a person under the woman's care and a hospital employee, the sheriff's office said.

The Coos Bay Haz Mat Team has not yet identified the source, but it appears to be passing through contact, not the air, the sheriff's office said.

KBOI2.com - Unknown illness spreads from woman to deputies and hospital staff in Coos County

Could it be that one of the characters from the story just happened to come to life?? The one that had T&C-25 running through her veins and if she touched you then you start hallucinating?

This story would probably freak reddit out! Anybody have an account? Anybody know if they lurk ATS?
