CERNs CMS experiment releases 300TB worth of data to... you lot

I saw an article and thought i would share the results with you guys.

The CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) experiment at the LHC (sister experiment to ATLAS) has released a whopping 300TB of data to the public. The front page for this effort can be found here

The page contains links on how to get the data (or chunks of it) and how to access it using the same tools as the people on the experiment use.

So for all of the people who continually make statements like "They don't know what they are doing" Here is your chance to put a tiny bit of effort in and do some analysis yourself.

Not tried it myself though I do already have most of the tools installed already due to my current involvement in the field of Particle physics (albeit dark matter), and that being the case it does appear that the data set is in a form close to the raw data the students/postdocs would be looking over.

So, if you have a few weeks to familiarize yourself... have some fun

Ah yes, sure, except it is in the wrong forum... Particle physics isn't exactly, space exploration

Besides, not my smart guy tools, I did search ATS and come up blank, invoking CERNs ROOT analysis package isn't going to help there

It might be useful to move that thread over here, currently there are no comments on it actually seriously discussing the topic
