Mysterious constructions in Egypt!

That is a hardened SAM site. The launchers are not present at the time of this pic, could be inside the structure, or not yet brought in.

The setup is changed. Could this be some sort of mining operation with temporary ramps leading to a platform where loads are dumped into smaller trucks? The circles could be used for storage of material.


The structures are lined with concrete slabs.

Yeah, I guess it has to be that then. I wonder why they changed the ramps though.

Moving right from Cairo I found another similar site, right next to a military airbase with hardened aircraft shelters. Looks like it also has underground ramps and also a large "golfball" radar installation, so guessing it's air defence related.
Given the harsh weather conditions there, it makes sense to have the hardware underground in a cool and clean environment instead of above ground.

Not much to add to the discussion but they do look like they would b fun on a motocross bike, those berms looks huge, I could pull some G's on them

You do know that Egypt is mostly sand because of all the sunshine, duh
They could put it anywhere instead of the middle of nowhere

If you go to the location on Google Maps (30°1'13.25"N 31°43'14.51"E) you see that this facility is right next to the Regional Ring Road which was under construction in the past years and still is. There seems to have been digging going on around the facility too.

I think it might have something to do with that.

Wow!!! How come the setup has changed? Are these things mobile? The lower construction has changed 180 degrees! WTF is going on?

I am pretty sure they were hauling gravel or something from pits on the right side of the structure. They then moved the ramps to the other side so they had to travel less distance when they started digging on the other side. The platform in the middle was used to dump the material into smaller trucks which supplied the construction of the Regional Ring Road that runs along West of the structure.

At least that's what I think.

Not sure why they rotated the triangular section though (or possibly the other section was moved, and not the triangular part..), unless someone read the plans incorrectly, or the threat was reassesed and found to be greater from the other direction...
