The current chairman of the House ethics committee, Joel Hefley, who was responsible for Tom DeLay's three admonishments for ethics violations,
expects that he has served his last day in that position. He also states that his dismissal will likely be viewed as retribution for his tough stance
on DeLay's shenanigans, although he doesn't know in fact that is the reason.

House Republicans have decided to replace the chairman of the ethics committee, who has crossed House Majority Leader Tom DeLay so many times that
the two barely speak, top leadership aides said yesterday.
The chairman, Rep. Joel Hefley (R-Colo.), has not been told his fate but said in an interview that his fellow leaders are "probably going to boot
me."
"I'm not naive enough to not know that there are some folks that are very upset with me because they think we were too harsh with DeLay," Hefley
said.

Rep. Hefley, who has served as chairman since 2001, has tried to maintain some semblance of accountability and honesty in the House of
Representatives. He and his ethics committee admonished DeLay "three times in a week last year for political and financial practices" that were
shady, to say the least.
The GOP has shown that it stands behind DeLay, one of its top fundraisers, regardless of his inappropriate activities. This latest salvo further makes
a mockery of the party's platform of "ethics" and "moral values."
