I dont think its a miracle. Cars are so safe nowadays that people survive the most violent of crashes, provided they happen somewhere within a reasonable speed.

The thing is, most of the safety measures are absolutely dependent on you wearing a seatbelt. This is the most basic safety measure. To think about the earlier resistance of people against the fledgling seatbelts is one of the least understandable in hindsight.

I'm so sorry....that you had to be in Jersey.
