I've read repeatedly how much people hate Rand Paul on this site. He's a sell out he's just another Republican part of the establishment are just a few of ATS views that have been tossed about.

My god look what he's promised to do on his first day in office. I understand why ATS hates this man now, he's pure evil.

Paul has promised to sign an executive order to end such government surveillance programs on his first day in office, should he win the presidency

I can't believe ATS would back such a position. He also continues to make further statements that ATS is completely against.

"We will do everything possible — including filibustering the Patriot Act to stop them," Paul said, acknowledging that a filibuster likely wouldn't be enough to block the program. "They have the votes inside the Beltway. But we have the votes outside the Beltway, and we'll have that fight."

And we should believe his promises because?

Would he never lie to get elected?

Hard to believe the man when we have become used to politicians saying one thing to get elected and never following through.

Obama promised to end the wars in the Middle East. How'd that work out for us?

Can you prove this assumption in his case? Or is this just based on speculation?

So far, only Paul, Sanders and Johnson have stated that they would get rid of the Patriot Act.

Sanders is a socialist.
Johnson a libertarian.
And Paul a republican, who flip-flops on issues like drones and the Fed.

I think we're pretty much screwed.

For this man I've been over my judgment. I know it doesn't flow with the same old taglines repeated in every political thread for attention. But I've actually looked into his history he keeps his word and carries the same political message from his beginnings." Less taxes, smaller government" the first time he took the position was in 1992 and it hasn't changed yet.

But how would most the people that commented so far know that. They are disillusioned people who have completely given up and assume every person acts exactly the same.

I read about the flip-flop issues. What many people have failed to notice is the strategy behind them. And for the same reason most people have just given up and refused to do the research and run with the taglines.

Please please please please bring up the NSA Reform Act.

I have noticed one thing that happens immediately on every political thread. It is instant derailment to any political thread and is meaningless in the context of a political discussion.

People do not want to get on and discuss the issues for the most case. They like to get on with a guaranteed popular response about the futility of the election system. The statement immediately deraile's the thread and take's it away from the actual political discussion.

I believe those post should be removed immediately as off-topic post by moderators in order not to derail the thread into the same old conversation about election viability instead of the topic of the actual politics.

Exactly. Someone should look back at all the promises Mr Honesty (Obama) made.

I guess then, if you've looked over his history, that you don't mind his racism (the apple doesn't fall from the tree), his disdain for aiding the disabled and sick and that America is and should be a Christian nation?

The guy is also a hypocrite, wants to end the war on drugs, but also supported a republican bill to crack down on states that had legalised marijuana.

He stated that the Baltimore riots were due to a lack of fathers and a lack of morals (rather racist), yet his son crashed his car while drunk not long before the riots, it's also the third time he's been arrested for drunk driving.

Top guy this Rand Paul

S o, Rand Paul says he doesn't believe in these programs and he will (emphasis mine) fight to the death in an arena with 4 tigers and a lion holding only a spear to get rid of them.

Obama said a lot of the same. But there are more problems with Rand. He is way more conservative than people think. He says some odd things. He flip flops. He is not his father, no matter how much many of us would want him to follow in the footsteps.

Asking why we need to believe his promises is derailing?

Seems pretty on topic to me.

Question, would he actually be able to pull of such an executive order with no push back from congress?

He also said he's decimated Al Qaeda and yesterday, dealt a serious blow in ISISs abilities. That was less than 24 hours before ISIS took Iraq city of RamadI.

Anything Obama says is good, isn't; anything he says is bad, is good. Anyone would be better...if we survive this man's term in office.

A lot of politicians have done this. You are right. Examples: They think gay marriage should be just fine, but don't want to say it right away. I get it, they have advisors. They want to win an election for the greater good. So, flip flops like that I can handle. For some reason I mistrust Rand Paul. From things I have read. Yet, I do not have those things in front of me. Can you, tell us why, again, besides his 'promise to remove those few things' , we should vote for him. We all like you.
Maybe some more info?

Yes, sarcasm is an art form. That's nice. Really. 5/10, but hey: It's not 0/10. After all, you're not suggesting the Irish eat surplus babies to cure the potato famine.

But there's another subtle issue here, that ATS would "back such a position" or be "completely against" some issue. If you're talking ATS ownership, I wouldn't be surprised, though I suspect they'd rather speak for themselves. If you're talking the ATS membership, I have observed that this is very much a "multi-cultural environment" with many divergent points of view. It's rather presumptuous to suggest otherwise. Just sayin'
