You left out not closing Gitmo, but yeah these are my main criticism of him but approaching the anti-Christ he is not.

Pretty pretty lies. I know chevy and Cadillac both increased their MPG by deleting the escalade EXT and avalanche. Despite being the same exact vehicle with a body kit, CAFE standards considered it a seperate model. There's the rub. All they did was reduce choice to meet the standards. And everyone cheers.

Then they do all their happy math to show all the lives or babies or puppies, or even better dollars saved, based on massive extrapolation of an average number that has no bearing in reality.

Less transparency in government (both the ACA and the Iranian nuke talk deals - we have to pass them to see whats in them) , Less FOIA requests granted of any President since the advent , the latest news of the admin shutting down all FOIA requests that deal with the Federal government and this admin , the back turning on our allies as he appeases their and our common enemies...the list goes on forever...

While on paper newer cars are more "efficient" than older ones in terms of emissions there are several other things to consider.

First when making a new car consider how much pollution is created in the process. You need coal to melt the steel, electricity for the robots, plastics for the cars (which older cars have considerably less) etc. So each time a new car is created you're adding that much more pollution to the world, while with an older car the damage has already been done.

Second one reason why car manufacturers can boast such high numbers in fuel efficiency is because of hybrid and electric vehicles. The prius in particular uses a nickel battery and nickel mining is extremely bad for the environment. Others may use lithium based batteries in which the mining is not much better.

Also because of globalization and the outsourcing of labor, cars are not built in one country anymore! The parts of a car are manufactured in all sorts of places in the world. Then they are shipped to a country to be assembled. This business model is horrible for the environment since it takes tons of fuel to ship these parts.

The point of my long winded post is if you care about the environment it's better to buy an older non hybrid car. I read once that a car built in the 60's thats still driven will never produce as much pollution as a new hybrid car, and the primary reason is because of pollution created while manufacturing.

The "purchase to discard" consumer economy....it is not good for any of us. It fills up landfills, creates waste, and creates pollution. But the system was designed to become this way. The fiat system requires ever increasing returns to offset the rotting currency. All currency devalues in an inflationary economy. And unless you are growing your consumerbase, you are losing value.

So companies HAVE to create disposable products, with planned obsolescence measures in place. Its just the way the system is designed to work.

There is no benefit to a car company when their cars last for 50 years. China has the aftermarket locked down with pricing, so the only bone with any meat on it for Chevy is new car sales. And if you aren't buying a new car every couple of years....there isn't enough market to create a market share.

But...but...how could he do anything like this when he destroyed the country and shredded the constitution. Um...

Oh wait...let me walk outside. The country is still there, I have a job, I have insurance, schools are good, My taxes are actually down a little bit this year, that one stop sign I think he took down as a step in destroying the country is still down, but...now I wonder, did he really do that? My neighbor said he saw Obama, with shovel and a pick axe the other day, trying to destroy the road by our house, but...he didn't do a very good job of it, we can still drive over it and I heard he went in a ripped down and actually shredded the replica of the constitution in the library down the road here, but that wasn't the REAL constitution. At least he's still trying...maybe the right wing fanatics are right. LOL

Then you are looking at Obama's presidency through confirmation bias, because Bush was most CERTAINLY a worse president than Obama was. Bush started a war on completely made up reasons, capitalizing on public fears from a recent terrorist attack so he could reignite a war fought while his daddy was in office. He also used the public's fears to help push the PATRIOT Act through Congress. Then, his economic policies helped tank the economy. Meanwhile, Obama has a few scandals that can't be directly pinned on him as well as a few bad policies he enacted. The comparison between Obama and Bush isn't even close. Even public opinion polls agree with me since Bush' lowest public opinion is below Obama's.

I'm not even trying to say that Obama is the bee's knees either. I don't like many of the things that Obama did either and think he was at best a mediocre President, but you are lying to yourself (or easily forget the past) by saying that Obama is worse than Bush.

You are very right. The consumer driven economy has driven a culture of quantity over quality with disposable products. There is a picture of a lot full of brand new cars that haven't sold, just sitting there probably to be disposed of because it was left over product.

I've been scolded by young "greenies" for driving an old car (1978) because in their narrow minds, the only thing that matters is what some bureaucrat in an office told them about new vehicles. When I attempt to explain to them that my car was manufactured in the period following the oil embargo their eyes begin to glaze over because they have no idea what the oil embargo was----no idea that cars were actually equipped with lean-burn carburetors that allow for up to about 30 mpg on the highway. When I ask them what sort of gas mileage they think I get with my 1978 sedan they always guess 10-15 mpg. When I tell them that fully loaded with people and luggage, making a trip across the mountains we average 27 mpg they are astonished. I am astonished when I realize that to them, maintenance means washing it when it is dirty.....and being surprised when it leaves them on the side of the road because they haven't done routine work like checking fluid levels. I'm certainly no gearhead but I know enough to hire a a good mechanic to keep my '78 running past the 360,000 miles mark.
