The word cult means 'hidden knowledge.' And yes, masons have hidden knowledge so I would say they are a cult.

What dictionary are you using?

How is our "hidden knowledge" hidden, when you can find it on the interwebz?

I searched wiki for the word occult.

And you have no idea how much secret knowledge is out there. Even the people of ATS have no clue when it comes to secrets!

I searched wiki for the word occult.

'Occult' and 'cult' are two entirely different words.

'Cult', as was pointed out in the Original Post, is from 'cultus'.

'Occult' is from 'occulere'.

Two different Latin words.

Here is a link for more arguments against Freemasonry being a cult: www.masonicinfo.com...

Are you saying you are the gatherer of said secrets?

Sorry to break it, but our secrets aren't secret. I just won't personally divulge our rites and customs.

On the same account, I was a 2W2 in the USAF active. I can build a nuclear tipped missile with the right tools and items. I could refuse to tell you how the science behind a nuclear or thermonuclear bomb works, but you can find it in all of two seconds.

There is a huge difference however between being a Mason and a 2W2.

As a former 2W2, I have an NDAA not to release secret, top secret and CNWDI related information. THAT is secret (but seriously it isn't all that exiting)

As a Mason, I could divulge our rites...but I would likely not be very welcomed at the lodge. If I divulged what I know of ICBM and W78/W87 operations, I could be imprisoned and endanger others.

Under your definition, I could stretch and say that 2W2's and 2M0's are a cult too. We have knowledge that the rest of the world doesn't.

Seriously though...we don't have some major knowledge we hide from others. Those rituals, rites and ceremonies (at least for me), did not tell me a secret. It let me unlock a bit of my own light and find things relevant to me.

A close examination of the craft of Freemasonry reveals that it's more of a scientific and historical inference than a cult or religion. Of course, since there's so much disinformation out there about Freemasonry this fact becomes lost among people, even Freemasons.
