This past Friday, a C-5M departed Travis AFB, with 265,000 pounds of cargo in the hold, on a one hour flight. The aircraft reached a maximum altitude of nearly 37,000 feet. During the flight, a total of 45 records were broken. It will take several weeks for certification to come from the National Aeronautic Association as well as the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, which tracks aviation records.

WOW, that is an amazing amount of weight to the amount of altitude gained. What was it carrying, or did that not matter, just going for the gold.

They had 33 pallets of various cargo on board. The sole point of this flight was to set records, so they loaded whatever they had on hand.

If they needed dead weight, they should have loaded the Congress and Senate on board. Of course hot air isn't all that heavy....

I'd love to see them build one using composites, and advanced technology. Just the upgrades they did for the M improved the reliability a lot. But I doubt we'll see a new one built.

Ooopppsss sorry,those photos were from a previous record set back in 2009 it says when I'm not too lazy to read what it says on Flickr about them.

the C-5 is am amazing feat of engineering even with the new upgrades got to wonder how long they will be able to stay around with all the work they get.

but then again if they were thinking about keeping the B-52's around for 100year life cycle who really knows.

i wonder how much gas they went threw in that hour

Part of the upgrades involved a detailed airframe inspection. The best aircraft were upgraded.
