A potentially great human rights leader was lost on this day 50 years ago named MalcolmX. He was once a militant speaker in the nation of Islam but as time marched on he changed his tone to a more moderate one where all races were accepted. He was assassinated by 3 member of the nation of Islam on Feburary 21, 1965 in the Audubon Ballroom-New York, Ny.

By the time he died, the Muslim leader had moderated his militant message of black separatism and pride but was still very much a passionate advocate of black unity, self-respect and self-reliance. Three members of the Nation of Islam were convicted of murder in his death. He had repudiated the Nation of Islam less than a year earlier.

In an interview with The Associated Press on the eve of the anniversary observance, Shabazz said she was pleased that the site is now a place for people to get a sense of empowerment. "One of the great things about Malcolm is that he redefined the civil rights movement to include a human rights agenda," she said.

I think had he lived, he would have become a great champion for civil and human rights. I just want to give him a moment of remembrance.

I asked a dear friend why we don't celebrate this like MLK day...

"Guess the government prefers ''I have a dream' to 'By any means necessary '. "

That says it all doesn't it?! I'm making my kids watch the movie Malcom X today, just like I made them watch Selma.

A Holiday for a Muslim?

LoL I doubt it!

Maybe in a few more years.

Even MLK day wasn't fully celebrated by all 50 States until 2000.

I highly recommend his autobiography. I stumbled onto the first chapter online and became hooked. That's where I became inspired to choose my avatar.

Edit to add... Corrected. And he is talking about the Democratic Party.
See here for more info including a video of the speech where he said this newsninja2012.com...
