The building's primary purpose was for record shredding, not an archive. It's a building on a wharf. Most of the records seem to be hospital patient related. Hardly a high-security facility, and hardly worthy of burning down to cover a paper trail.

However, there is the land speculation:

Back in July 20, 2011, we reported about the Bloomberg administration's failed attempt to buy the lot. A spokesman said, "While discussions remain open on the potential purchase of the Citi Storage site, the city's current budget issues are well known."

A 2011 Brooklyn Paper article stated that CitiStorage owner Norman Brodsky "hoped to move his N. 10th Street warehouse and sell the site to the city — but city officials told him there was no money to make the purchase. Now Brodsky’s allies say he’s trapped because the property has been rezoned for parkland and he cannot unload the parcel to a private developer." A source close to Brodsky said, "The property is worthless as housing."

Now, again, if the city wanted the records gone, they could easily have bought the property and simply shredded the records, or simply kept the company involved and allowed shredding to proceed. But the city declined to buy the property and had no interest in it except as public land. The property was being rezoned for public use and this prevented its sale to a private developer.

Now cue the hijinks. Owner found one way out of his contract to the city and to allow a sale to a private developer.

The warehouse stored records they planned to shred before they saw a need for them - before the Feds started investigating!

The probe is focusing on the state Supreme Court’s civil division at 60 Centre St. in lower Manhattan, where many tentacles reach to disgraced Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, the court source said.

Silver was arrested last month on corruption charges, and Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara warned the public to “stay tuned” for more developments.

The case against Silver centers on his freelance legal “work” and the millions of dollars in bribes and kickbacks he hauled in from real-estate and asbestos claims, the feds say. Many of these cases landed in the courtrooms at 60 Centre St., presided over by judges with ties to Silver and his lifelong pal, Jonathan Lippman, the chief judge of the state Court of Appeals.

I'd say there's a good chance records pertaining to Silver's "freelance" work were in that warehouse.

For almost 2 decades, Silver has stood in the way of NYS adult adoptees gaining access to our original birth certificates. All non-adopted individuals have this right. Not unlike in the movie Philomena, many adoptees have been told our records have been destroyed in fires. It's NY government - they're not that advanced. Although the article did say some groups were in the process.

After living in NY for more than 30 years, I can tell you, they REALLY don't use their brains there. Government that is. The ones that do, are corrupt and plan it that way. NY is one of the most messed up states in the union. If there could be a mass exodus there would. It's one of the most highest taxed states over the stupidest crap! Cigarette tax alone is through the roof! A $5 pack of cigarettes would cost you $11-12 in come counties. And NY is starting to wise up. Don't bother going to the Indian reservations to avoid taxes, because now they're setting up CHECKPOINTS to force people to pay tax as soon as they leave the reservation. Insane! And that's just one example! That doesn't including very high car registration fees, car tax, etc.... Talk about the peasants with the pitchforks.

The really good one I like, is when Bumsfeld came out in 9/10/2001 and told congress that, what was it 2.3 Trillion dollars was missing. Then next day Pentagon is hit right where those records were kept. Dang, how could that of happened, it was the plane everyone saw the plane hit the Pentagon.
Now the dumb arses in congress say what 2.3 Trillion.
