Rand Paul slams Bush 'hypocrisy' on pot

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) accused Jeb Bush of hypocrisy after The Boston Globe reported the former Florida governor was a heavy marijuana smoker while at an elite prep school. Bush opposed a Florida medical marijuana ballot initiative last year even though he partook liberally of the herb while in high school. “You would think he’d have a little more understanding then,” Paul told The Hill while en route to a political event in Texas. “He was even opposed to medical marijuana,” Paul said of Bush, a potential rival in the 2016 Republican presidential primary. “This is a guy who now admits he smoked marijuana but he wants to put people in jail who do.

Let the mud slinging begin. At least Rand supports the peoples right to choose if they want MMJ or not seeing how he introduced an amendment that would shield states that choose to have MMJ. It wouldn't surprise me that if Bush did win the Presidency we would see the DEA start raiding the states that have passed both MMJ and recreational use of pot. That figures Jeb the pot head and George the coke head but both of them are against legalization.

Unfortunately there is another one. Another Bush is trying to get into politics. We should have a law if someone in your family wins President then no one in your family can run for that office for at least three generations. This dynasty crap like the Bush's and Clinton's needs to stop.

Let's start with term limits on senate and congress seats. If they cant get it done in 8 or 10 years, they never will.

Gives new meaning to "burning Bush". If Jeb himself was a heavy pot user (did he inhale?), yet won't even support medical marijuana for people who would greatly benefit from it, then he is taking inner-circle advise and probably not leading with his heart.

Could not agree more.

At the very least, it would start costing big business more and more money in bribes and the outright purchase of senators and other politicians.

I did plenty of things in High School that I would not endorse now... I mean now someone can not change their opinions after age 18?

I support Medical Marijuana and am not really a fan of the Bush family, but it seems silly to say that because someone once partook they MUST support legalization. Perhaps he regrets it and would rather he never tried it.

That's a good post, and it connects exactly to the issue: The prohibitionists aren't against smoking it, rather they are for a system of systematic law breaking for elites who are above the law. The fact is that more than 50% of this country has smoked it without objection to their conscience. The idea that it should be illegal enforces the concept that initiations to this elite are widely accessible, and therefore others should stand with ideas of keeping it criminalized to protect their "elite" status, and send the uninitiated trash to jail. But anti-prohibitionists have another idea, in line with the founding fathers of this nation, that the people make their own laws. They stand with officers who believe the law applies to ALL people, not just a select few lower class people or political dissidents who have stood up against the law behind the law

One American people, one love, one law. No special classes due to wealth, while the poor have all things taken from them.

They're all hypocrites. We currently have an ex member of the Choom Gang as president.

Rand has a point. Of course, it will only be okay for Jebby and co. to have used or use. Seems like it flies that way with the politicians and lobbyists these days.

Legalization would cut into his family's profits. That guy needs to go get stuffed.

Jeb is just trying to pander to the ultra-Conservatives who are still anti-legalization.

I have a feeling that every candidate in the 2016 election will start taking a more neutral stance on marijuana because they know that the majority of Americans support legalization... or at least support letting states decide for themselves.

Hilary is already taking the "we should wait and see how it works in Colorado and Washington" stance. I have a feeling the rest will follow suit.

Gutless wonders all....there will be a longer haul to freedom of choice than it looked a year ago....but aint that always the way?

Rand Paul is trying to make a coalition of everyone who is for less government. Long shot but a very good one.

Bush is representing his constituency, which is what he is supposed to do in a representative political body.

Pot is just a vehicle for expression in this case.

Bush seems to be the next favorite from the kingmakers. Will he be at Builderberg this year or next year?

The Presidents have often come in clumps, like they were from prepared ground.

The first group were from Virginia mostly, then after the Civil War most came from Ohio. Starting with Theodore Roosevelt a bunch came from New England, ending with Kennedy. Since then they have been Country and Western, except for Obama.

Bush has got New England and Country and Western Covered. If they want him, he is the one.
