Thats the title of the article,

www.thebeaverton.com...

satire article

“We are teaching the Iraqis valuable operational skills,” said Minister of National Defence Rob Nicholson visiting the troops who are about to engage ISIS near Fallujah. “Camouflage, concealment and decoys are not only important in the field, but also at home pretending that we’re not involved in direct combat.” The Iraqi forces were taught how to avoid transparency...

... learning to deploy self-defence as a way of explaining away battles at press conferences, and how to extend military deployments without having to consult Parliament.

Apparently you can't discern satire from news?

first thought for me is you seem to have missed the giant, 20-pt font size disclaimer on the site:

There can be a lot of truths in some satire.

We were told that our soldiers would not be fighting, only advising........
The government should have been a little more truthful, like to say that yes, they might be in a combat role, boots on the ground....

So what are they supposed to do if they are fired upon while training Iraqi soldiers? Consult the NDP before they return fire?

Not at all. I would expect them to take out as many of the enemy as possible.

i was only referring to Harper being too reassuring that they wouldn't be fighting.
We Cdns can handle truth, he shouldn't have said that they are only going to advise, he seemed to stress that point.
It should have been expected that they might end up somewhere where there's fighting - the fight is constantly moving.
