it looks like the weapons bay is always open or hard points on the wings. are they worried about some one pointing a radar at them?

The bays seal up. After a certain point, and for some missions stealth isn't as important, so they'll use external stores.

They're closed at all times in flight, except for weapons release, and some flight tests relating to weapons release.

Pardon my ignorance on the subject, but is the F-35 able to convert back into a clean form after jettisoning the external tanks along with the hard point supports that hold it if it were fitted with such externals? I've always wondered about this with the F-22 and other stealth jets since the hard point would affect stealth I'd imagine, even if the hard point was empty.

Must have be my OCD, it just looks better all closed up.

Seeing as this will be flying the AMRAAM later this month and the gun still testing then is the AIM-9X is the only missile on this now?

All fighters carry two small explosive charges in the external pylons. They're able to jettison individual pylons, or all of them. Besides the ability to go back stealthy for a stealth aircraft, in the event of an emergency, they can jettison them to reduce weight and drag.

On a stealthy platform, once they're jettisoned they're back to a stealthy configuration.

No, the B is already cleared for limited AMRAAM use as well as the -9X.
