The official name is Fighting Falcon, or Falcon. The pilots and crew chiefs call it the Viper. It's the same aircraft, just official and unofficial names.

Thanks Zaph. It does seem like a weird choice for the roll. What do you think would have been a better two seat alternative for that roll that they should have chosen at the time in your opinion?

Even an F-16D would have been a good choice. A single seat aircraft can't do the mission as effectively as a two seat aircraft.

Does the f16 D have a more powerful engine. I ask because it looks the same size as the C but with a second seat. Looks heavier or somehow more ungainly in comparison. How did the D differ performance wise from the C? If she were to have taken over the roll of the wild weasel mission how do you think that would have impacted her capabilities if at all? Just curious how the f16 D paned out because it didn't seem as popular as the C.

There's no noticeable difference between the two. Very slight difference in speed due to the second cockpit, but nothing that would alter the ability to do the mission.

The B and D models of the F-15 and F-16 are pilot trainers. The F-15E is the only two seater that is a strike aircraft.

If I remember correctly the whole reason the situation in the video happened was because the Weasels were leaving while Stroke flight entered the area.

that may be but those radar operators couldn't have known the difference between a c and a cj. they just got lucky.
