This article is claiming that based on "unidentified" secret sources, intel has been attained which shows that Assad is building a secret nuclear facility for the development of Nuclear Weapons. The article goes on to say that the effort is being supported by Iran, Korea, and guarded by Hezbollah.

Berlin (AFP) - Intelligence suggests that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is building a secret underground plant with the aim of developing nuclear weapons, Germany's Spiegel news magazine said Friday.

Citing information made available by unidentified intelligence sources, Spiegel said the plant was in an inaccessible mountain region in the west of the war-ravaged country, two kilometres (1.2 miles) from the Lebanese border.

It is deep underground, near the town of Qusayr and has access to electricity and water supplies, the magazine said in a pre-released version of the story released ahead of Saturday's publication.

This is an interesting development. I hope it isn't the case that Syria is building a Nuclear weapon; that wouldn't be good. What says ATS?

I would think that Russia may be the go to for Syria when it comes to nuclear . It's probably not in Assad's cards to have much to do with the west other then maybe inspectors .

The guy is using Chlorine Bombs on his own people.

He can't afford respectable chemical weapons to terrorize his own people.

Nukes ? Not buying it.

I see where you're coming from, Buster. This article may just be journalistic fear-mongering; using un-named sources for its claim. However, if they were building a Nuclear Weapon to use on some country, wouldn't you want to prevent that?

Didn't we say someone else was trying to build nukes a while back?

Yup. Nukes. I saw 'em, too. Out in the back there... behind the -- well, don't look! They know you're lookin'! Besides, it's in an area you can only get to with bombs or ground troops.

Or increased domestic surveillance.

Who would Syria use the bomb on they are not at war with any other country. Right now they are in the middle of a civil war I think the last thing on Assad's mind would be to drop a nuke on another country and start yet another war he wouldn't be able to fight. Let's see what other nation screams that another nation is building nukes but has no proof of it and would benefit from America going in and getting rid of Assad?
