The media manipulates the mentalities of the masses by creating controversy, pre-defining the 'sides' of the issue, and creating the compulsion to
pick a side. It is clear to me that there is something at work which intentionally crafts the way issues are presented, so as to sort of program the
masses into a certain paradigm of thinking. It's semantic manipulation, the projecting of assumptions into people's minds without awareness of it. It
is assumed prior to the thought, because frameworks are pounded into our minds through media. Many don't question the assumed paradigms. This is just
one example. How hot-button issues are used to manipulate, and the people are unable to get out because they are trapped in pre-defined dialectics.
Either this or that, the meaning of 'this' or 'that' being given to us pre-packaged. Then we choose. For the majority, no other possibilities are
seriously seen or considered. And this is a large part of how we remain trapped in systems that do not really serve our best interests.
I will give just one example that has been on my mind, among countless other potential examples. And that is that, the entire script for the debate on
Obamacare is formatted in just such a way, so as to manipulate the mentalities of the people. What do I mean? Well, the whole buzzword against
Obamacare is 'socialism.' Socialsim has become the proclaimed enemy for a good portion of the population. This is a perfect example of how they use
linguistics to essentially program the thinking of the population through media. So socialism is the enemy. You dare not speak positively of anything
socialist, lest about half of the population see you as the enemy. So instead we get the reality of this government sponsored corporatism, simply the
government making people buy insurance plans from private companies. This is not to talk 100% bad of the whole thing, it does help a decent amount of
people. Nonetheless, pro or anti Obamacare is not the point I wish to address in this thread. It is rather the way which this whole issue isbeing used
as a tactic for manipulating the public.
So, socialism being the enemy, noone dare challenge the assumption that medical care is something which should be an economic decision just like any
other. That is the issue. Fundamentally. How can we accept the fact that for a very significant portion of the population, they are going to ignore
medical checkups and treatments, because they simply can't afford it. And if you go and nothing is wrong, well then you're really pissed, cuz you just
blew a bunch of money for nothing. Obviously this aversion towards medical care is an a gradient depending on individual psychology and level of
income. Nonetheless, money shouldn't factor into seeking medical assistance. And if you say that, it's very easy to say you are supporting socialism,
and that is a buzzword that has purely negative connotations for about half of the population. Despite the fact that the current system is not even
socialist. So now we won't even have that debate for some time, cuz socialist is something which half of the population is looking to call people
disparagingly.
Ultimately I support a much more radical re-structuring of society. 'Socialism' is no end goal to me. But I certainly do not think medical care should
be something which people have to considered considered financially in the same way as other things. Going to the doctor to see whether or not you
have a problem should not be a luxury. And statistically countries that do this are much better off in terms of a variety of health-related
statistics.
