i just came across this video and wondered, among the many flyboys here at ATS, which would top your personal 'best of' list? personally, i've always had a soft spot for MIGs (but the f 22 raptor is astounding).

In terms of performance everyone will go for F22. In terms of looks I love the mig 29 and sukhoi 27 and their variants and descendants. Beautiful machines.

F-14 Tomcat
F-15 Eagle
F-16 Falcon
All of these have a proven combat record.
Ask Iraq, Syria, Libya..............

I would have to go old school and say the Sopwith Camel, or SE5. Less Tech and more seat of the pants flying.

But if you'e talking about today's aircraft, than the A-10 WartHog (Also known as the Thunderbolt II).

A raptor flew right over my head on approach to a local airfield the other day. it was low, slow and very loud. Everyone in the valley could hear it. I could have downed it with a rifle.

'Best jets ' are the ones left after the next big fur ball.

Has there been one of those lately?

Downed it, not "down it", damn it. What you been smoking?

Nobody knows who the best jest will be until the next Ball opens.

Then it will be the simplest, mostest, bestest piloted.

Camel lights...
cough, cough.

Step out. Make a guess. Which is most likely to be the best.

Not a fighter, but I'd have to say the A-10 Warthog is a favorite. The song of its people ( "BRRRTT BRRRTT" ) is a favorite amongst those of us who have spent time in the mud

If somebody ever made a 10 hour long clip of BRRTTT BRRRTTT, I'd watch it. Probably would make it my entrance song for every room I walked into if I could. Stars to you!

I think if you look at numbers of airframes built, combined with lifespan and variants, you could easily make a case for the F-4 Phantom II.

The F-22 is amazing... we'll see if they are still flying 30 years from now...
