give it up for the warriors(1979)

another cult classic that is one of the best movies ever....

last year on the wiki article about the movie it said they were in talks of a remake...more a reinterpretation that was to take place in present day los angelas.....
all i remember was swan was going to be one of the og's....the article does not say anything about it now...im glad as this movie is perfect just how it is.
if you have never seen it i think you should watch it immediately.

Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in New York City, the Gramercy Riffs, calls a midnight summit for all the area gangs, with all asked to send nine unarmed representatives for the conclave. A gang called The Warriors are blamed for killing Cyrus as he gives his speech. They now have to cross the territory of rivals in order to get to their own 'hood. The Warriors slowly cross the dangerous Bronx and Manhattan territories, narrowly escaping police and other gangs every step of the way.

i think i watched this for the first time when i was 6 and loved it right away....

the warrior having to 'bop' their way back to coney island....fantastic.

hey intrepid, another little known 80's gem with james remar...this is even more obscure than the warriors...i have never seen this for sale or rent anywhere...
all sorts of 80's awesomness in band of the hand....

so many movies between 79-88 ish that are just plain awesome....

The Warriors was about peace amongst turmoil. Even inside their own group. It's an important movie.

Entertaining too.

Awesome movie......considering the low production value.

Ha ha, Warriors was the reason i wore a denim jacket under my beat up leather jacket when i was a kid lol.

Just where i lived was mainly countryside so Warriors was how I imagined city kids lived.

I remember in the 70's and 80's New York City really did have all these crazy gangs. I don't know about guys dressed up like clowns though. But you did have guys walking around with thick metal chains dangling around their necks and others with baseball bats. You also had the baldies in the Bronx with bald heads. Many of the gangs had vests with their names. Watch 80 Blocks from Tiffany's for the reals.

Among my favorite movies (probably would make it in my top 10). Even the game was amazing. The whole atmosphere of it was just incredible (much like the first RoboCop).

Remakes like this... iduno... it's like they are taking something special from older generations who hold these treasures tightly to ourselves as cultural secrets and they just cheapen it by stripping the feel of the original.

But I know that's just selfish. They just better do a great job.

That whole scene was hilarious. The Baseball Furies look all psycho and badass only to get totally stomped with relative ease when they get tired of running.
