there's little doubt it was something to do with the engines - it usually is with rockets because that's where all the actin is.

But apart from that....what? the engines aer old? Yeah - ":so what?" remains my point - they do not get reused, so they are old and also brand new - and tested and refurbished to account for any aging.

NASA's independent review team said the initial fire was caused by friction from rubbing parts in a liquid oxygen turbopump. The pump was in one of the old Russian-built engines of Orbital Sciences Corp.'s unmanned Antares rocket.
