Marine biologists capture rare sea creature in the Gulf of Mexico

This animal or animals as it is more than one, is super awesome and beautiful.

A group of marine biologists were in for an unexpected surprise when a deep sea expedition led to a close encounter with one of the ocean depth’s rarest creatures.

When exploring the ocean bed in the Gulf of Mexico, scientists from the Nautilus Live team came across an extremely rare purple species of siphonophore.

Although the creature may look on the surface like an elongated jellyfish, each species is in fact not just one organism but a colony of individual organisms that are connected together.

Wonders never cease. The first thing that flashed through my mind was the resemblance of that part on the left to a zipper. I've been watching the dives too. I just wish they would project their voices so the viewing experience would be more enjoyable. So thanks for identifying what it was for me.

It WAS a rare creature...

Now dead on an autopsy table awaiting his/her mate... Sadly

Might have been captured dead in a net accidently... Whatever... Best to leave them alone IMO, we have done enough damage to our planet as it is...

I've seen those before ( on screen)

If I remember correctly they are many animals together, working as a team.

Some digest, some catch... but as a whole they make this "one" animal.

Imagine being born as the rear end... that would be a #ty life ; )

Scientists have difficulties to place them in a group. Colony? Cell ?

Anyway that's all i Remember.

It's ok, they didn't capture it...

This beautiful colonial organism drifted past Hercules' cameras, and we followed it for as long as we could keep track.

Its pretty cool how its made of a bunch of different creatures, its basically a living breathing moving colony, or a biological micro city with specialized parts in the whole, each doing there own thing, and some can detach from the whole and operate on there own for specific purposes. If these things were more evolved, and more complex, or even if they were just bigger, they really would be something and a sight to see.
