Cops taking peoples money for no good reason. They give a reason, but their reason is a joke.

ya this is absolutely wrong...this stuff was big in Louisianna I think and the way they argued it was if you resist or argue or show signs of resisting it became suspicious. They were going for people on vacation. It is wrong. Refuse a search beyond that...you have my blessing to do as you need to do. I wont judge.

edit: although the guy with marijuana flakes in his car...and 17k in cash...idk man that is a tough one..but then they didn't charge him which is bogus...if you are gonna do it..then do it.

It's getting to the point that you can't trust any of them. Or at least you are scared to at any rate.

The drug war is all about money. Money for law enforcement/equipment, attorneys, money for court fines, money for the jails ($350/day by the state in Fla) and more. Manufacturers of law enforcement equipment lobby to keep the laws as that means more in sales for equipment. And if the war on drugs was over, many would lose their lucrative jobs. Can't have that now, so they figure out a way to apply laws not meant for the general public to the general public. It is a big joke amongst officers and agents. They even have little competitions between themselves on who can seize more cash and equipment like cars, trucks, etc. It is completely out of control and when you throw in private prisons and the newest evil, private police forces, it is only going to get worse before it gets any better. It may take years, but the more innocent citizens they do this to the more pressure to change the laws for the politicians. People need to stand up and demand these type of laws be changed. If they find a substantial amount of illegal narcotics, then hey it probably is being used illegally. But, to find zero, no violations, and take their cash is a crock of BS so big it isn't believable they could get away with it. I will tell you something else. They will size you up and if you appear to be a professional and can afford attorneys, they generally don't press the issue. But, if you look like a typical middle class or poorer person your fair game. They know you can't afford to fight the governments array of lawyers and experts.
And God help you if you end up with a couple of corrupt officers.

I once worked on federal task force that target corrupt officers and agents. It really changed my world view and that of law enforcement in general. One case these 4 officers literally strangled a convenience store owner in the back of their patrol car to steal the money he got for change his stores needed over the weekend. One of the officers worked off-duty in the bank and saw him come in and pick up the cash, about $51,000 every Friday and that is where the plot was hatched. You need to scroll down to see it.

Exactly, nothing but highway robbery at it's finest, just look at the pictures of the cop that stole the money, he acts like he did something good he looks like he enjoyed doing it. I wonder what their cut is ? Or is this what cops that can't catch real criminals do? To stupid to catch a bad guy, guess I will just rob some body today instead.

I wrote about this on another thread recently. Years ago, I think it was the local south MIssissippi paper, but it may have been the New Orleans paper, did a story on the I-10 corridor from Texas to Florida, and called it the Highway to Jail. They documented case after case of traffic stops along this corridor, with situations just like these: minute trace evidence, or none at all, of drugs, and a suitcase of cash. Rather than put the person in jail after being detained and searched, they'd let them go free but confiscate the cash….

Do like me: dont carry ANY CASH, then they cant take it.
When I drive to Atlantic City, I take out the cash I need for that day in the casino, no more.
I do 99% of my transactions on my debit card.
The one guy that won $6,000.00 in Las Vegas should have had it converted to a cashiers check or had it wired to his bank.
DONT CARRY CASH.

And people say capitalism is a success. Is there any success story for the privatization of things historically left to government? The ideology of corporatism has ruined education, health care, prisons, police, even the military and entertainment.

Damn shame that the nation who made free trade the goal of everything has rigged the game everywhere it can. Monopolies are the norm and it seems to be only getting worse.

The ghost of Teddy Roosevelt needs to come back and set things straight. I would love to see him riding a spectral bear and wielding a massive stick through wall street.

But sometimes when you are travelling your bank gets nervous if you use a debit card in another state. Even if you call ahead! I had my debit card cancelled for travelling only 3 hours away because they were afraid my card was stolen. I always carry about 100 bucks on me but after that for vacations I made sure I had enough cash on me for the trip which could be 2000 dollars.
