Hi,
i became aware of this technique of meditation. I liked the approach to "clean your memories" to detach from limiting beliefs.. But there are also many controversial reports about this Maum Group. When i visited a center a few weeks ago, the "Helpers" seemed very happy and really "wise" in a way but still there was something off about their philosophy.
As i dont really care about philosophy and i have enough of it ...i just wanted to learn the technique but don´t have time right now.

Anyone here with experiences who could tell me if and how it works?

greetings

Its interesting you're not interested in the philosophy. The introduction video was more of an informercial. I have to look on another site.

I think you may need the philosophy to understand the process.

ETA: you need to read the negative reviews for this on your own. Its considered a cult, a scam and many more thing I've never heard with meditation before.

They do seem to have a 'sharp' web presence with acolytes posting on forums.

Seems 'too shiny' for me but I'm hesitant about much of what comes out of Korea in the way new-age spirituality.

I tried it around a year ago for a month. I htink I paid $100 and you can go for unlimited sessions. To me it seemed like a glorified way to teach emptying the mind; Buddhism. There is a visualization technique You use to rid yourself of attachments, desires and such. It was cool to have helpers guiding me; the staff were very nice; tasty free food.

I dont know if id recommend it. I liked it for the sense of community but I thought it was more or less a rip off of Buddhism.

The founder of course is living in a multi million dollar mansion in some place like New york

Sounds like you could do better with a therapist than you could that group. Seriouly since therapy can involve removing your limitations from past experiences. Just take what you get from that and apply it to everything. Humanistic and Positive psychology would take it further id think by putting a focus on the good things and have a way to see how to reach goals and full potential.

this visualisation technique how does it work and WHY does it work..

If a visualisation technique works to empty the mind .. it would be more effective than hours and hours of psycho analyisis.

Why did you stop?

I get what you mean but psychoanalysis is not what most therapists do because that takes years. Thats just a cliche they use in tv shows when portraying a psychologist, same as how they use chalk outlines on crime scenes even though police dont do that. Its Freudian and dated. Im not a psychologist or been through therapy so I dont know specifically what form of therapy i am thinking of (perhaps CognitiveBehaviorTerapy?) but i know enough about spirituality and psychology that buddhism has some aspects that is very similar to some forms of therapy. Im just saying its another way of going about it. Of course meditating is free so do that first and see how well that goes.

Meditation is basically strengthening neural pathways in your brain. Im not sure on that specific method that person mentioned but I do know visualization is used in meditation, and psychotherapy among other things so visualization is pretty validly accepted. I am also aware your brain has trouble telling the difference between imagined things and real things. It sees thoughts the same as reality. Of course to get full benefit you need to meditate regularly.

Well my memory is hazy but they described the mind as something thats always taking pictures. You have to take these pictures and literally throw them in a blackhole in your mind. You are visualizing that you are throwing all of your pictures and attachments away. They said that this reality is not the real reality; that we are trapped here...Ah something else like an onion where you are peeling off layers..Its not very complicated, but I dont remember it well.

I only did it for a month so I cant attest that it works.

I quit becaquse I moved out of town but honestly Im not sure that id return ev en if I was still there as I probably wouldnt like paying a hundred bucks a month.

When a person first begins in their spiritual journey they are like babes in the woods. They are prey to every cult, religion and con artist out there. All in all, Maum is like the Scientologists, the Moonies, TM and other scurrilous cults. They pick up vulnerable people, teach them a few simple techniques to help sort their lives out, but in the process brainwash them with extended meditation sessions and other techniques into dependency and obedience, while draining money from them. There’s a multi-step programme of ever-higher levels of teaching, and above the bottom levels, students are taught to recruit and extract money from vulnerable people, and so on.
Their leader used to claim to be a UN World Peace Ambassador; however, there is no such post or any mention of Woo Myung on the UN site. Lately, I note that the “UN” part of the title has been dropped..
I would be interested to know what make of car Woo Myung drives, and what his home is like. Non-profit? Yah.
After level 4 maum helper will ask for “Sky Funds” to allow your ancestors to go to heaven from purgatory, about 1K USD. Really money will take then to heaven? After level 7 is another level, or “culmination” process with the Profit Woo Myung, they will ask you to pay large amount of money, around $6000 or half off your life savings. They for sure don”t want your money…a reply to: kauskau

I love the "Don't think" aspect in that most say they were stressed about the future and becoming a negative person. No one questions why they became that way in the first place, like living through all the injustice in the world or being disappointed by their leaders. I think it is very selfish (and stupid) to stop caring or even thinking of it at all. Just to get the relief, why not nip the problem in the bud??? Don't expect your problems to fade away just because you willingly made yourself blind to them. This is not a good time to be a Buddhist...

I am a ex-member of Maum meditation and want to share some things with you!
How Maum mediation works :
There is different brain wave states (alpha, beta, theta, delta) and all serves a different function, But the alpha state makes people especially susceptible and open to Conwertion.
1) Beta – The Waking Consciousness And Reasoning Wave
Beta brain waves are associated with normal waking consciousness and a heightened state of alertness, logic and critical reasoning.
2) Alpha – The Deep Relaxation Wave
Alpha brain waves are present in deep relaxation and usually when you’re slipping into a lovely daydream or during meditation. It is an optimal time to program the mind for success and it also heightens your imagination, visualization, memory, learning and concentration, And most important alpha state makes people especially susceptible and open to Conversion. Technically, what Maum helpers are doing is creating conditions that wipe the brain slate clean so that the mind accepts new input, in the form of suggestion.
The alpha brain-wave state induces the internal release of natural opiates and beta endorphins. Essentially, being in the alpha brain-wave state, feels good and can act like a drug!
If you spend an hour to an hour and a half a day in meditation, after a few weeks, there is a great probability that you will not return to full beta consciousness. You will remain in a fixed state of alpha for as long as you continue to meditate. I'm not saying this is bad--if you do it yourself. It may be very beneficial. The more you meditate, the flatter your mind becomes and that’s were the danger comes when you allow someone else who you don’t fully know the motives of to take you through these steps and slowly alter deep beliefs about yourself and the world! The aim is to create a mechanism in flesh and blood with new beliefs and new thought processes. So you can be a drone and recruit more people who will bring more money to keep up wish lavish life style woo muyang lives!
You feel happy because your body produces opiates and beta endorphins, this hype is temporary and goes away. So you assessed with completing another level and chasing the rush.
The result is the reduction of thought and eventually, if used long enough, the cessation of all thought and withdrawal from everyone and everything except that which Maum group direct. The takeover is then complet.
We are all conditioned that if someone gives us something, we have to give them something in return--in this case, it is your money.
The maum helpers have not told you this yet, they don't tell the truth until they get your mind controlled. After level 4 it will ask for "Sky Funds" to allow your ancestors to go to heaven from purgatory, about 1K USD. Really money will take then to heaven?
After level 7 is another level, or "culmination" process with the leader Woo Myung, it last about three weeks or so, and its usually held somewhere in Argentina, Korea, or some another place, they will ask you to pay large amount of money, around $6000, or more depends on your financial status.
NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN BRAINWASHED AND REALIZED, OR BELIEVED, THAT HE HAD BEEN BRAINWASHED. Those who have been brainwashed will usually passionately defend their manipulators, claiming they have simply been "shown the light" . . . or have been transformed in miraculous ways.

Educate your self! Ask questions and check the answers.

I used to practice Maum Meditation and I have much experience with Maum Meditation. Recently this organization start changing their name on the Facebook and on the Internet, I think it because people start posting their true experience with this organization, now they go under something like “Meditation Method”, “Meditation North America”, “Arlington Meditation” and etc. I would guess they are doing this because under new names it will be harder to find the truth about this organization. On the Yelp website you can find some good and some bad reviews about their centers, it is obvious that some very good reviews are removed by Yelp because they were posted by Maum organization themselves using same IP address.

I would like to share my experience and I hope that it will be helpful for somebody out there. If you are reading this you ether are involved with Maum Meditation or you just discovered it and looking for more information. First, what is maum meditation ? During the introductory lecture Maum Meditation helpers (people who work their, guiding during meditation, are called “helpers”) will tell you that your mind is full of garbage, and they will help you to clean it. So is maum meditation good and right method to reduce stress and (as Maum Meditation promise) spiritual enlightenment, and peaceful mind? My experience in the beginning was really good, right now not so good.
“When a person first begins in their spiritual journey they are like babes in the woods. They are prey to every cult, religion and con artist out there”. Inelia Benz.ascension101.com...
If you practicing maum meditation you would say “but I am getting amazing results”,“I can sleep better, I am more relaxed, I tried many other methods and only this feels right, or my relationship improved dramatically, or I felt something extraordinary”or similar feelings. Yes, you are right, in the beginning some of us getting some results, and here is why- what’s happening with us during this meditation its nothing new, those techniques are used for over 200 years (studies are done and books are written by neuroscientist and psychiatrists Kathleen Taylo, Ivan Pavlov, William Walters and other scientists ). A brief explanation – during this meditation our body goes through stress, because Maum Meditation is not a meditation that you sit quietly and suppress your thoughts, during maum meditation you are doing subtraction, you constantly in your mind bringing up your memories from the past (pictures) and mentally destroying them, also destroying your body, your friends, your family, destroying everybody and everything (as you progress in Maum meditation levels), so during long hours of this kind destruction our body goes through stress and brain releases chemicals called Endorphins. Endorphins are feel good chemicals our bodies release under pain or stress. They are considered the bodies own opiates. So we kind drugging our self during this meditation. And as we practice this method more and for longer hours per day, the result of this mental stage we get is impaired mental judgment and increased suggestibility.Basically our brain goes flat – “clean slate state”, and existing mental programming is replaced, by maum meditation helpers, with new patterns of thinking and behavior- our mind is reprogrammed to serve maum meditation group. Once a person has been “reprogrammed” they often cannot think for themselves, and become intellectually as well as emotionally dependent upon Maum meditation helpers and leaders, a person starts trusting them completely, a person’s ability to question information and use critical analysis are eliminated. We start going door to door to distribute Maum meditation flyers to recruit more members, start using food supplements Maum meditation sells us, and so on and on. This state of mind is a reversion to an earlier state of evolution.
In my opinion Maum meditation using mind control techniques, after receiving this new programming we passionately defend Maum meditation and their leaders, and we start claiming that we been “shown the truth”, “we will be saved”. . . or “this is amazing method”.
So is Maum Meditation a cult?
A while ago I would said no way Maum meditation is a cult, everybody so nice and loving, no way I am in a cult. Now I can say- nobody ever joints a cult, nobody joins something they think is going to hurt them. We join a religious organization, some movement, a yoga class or similar, and we join with people that we really like. Don’t you?

“The first rule of a cult recruitment, is that a recruit must never suspect he or she is being recruited” (psychologist Margaret Singer)
No one has ever been brainwashed and realized, or believed, that he or she had been brainwashed. Those who have been brainwashed will usually passionately defend their manipulators. I can tell from my personal experience If you are in a relationship and in to this meditation then most likely your relationship will be ruined as more and more you progress in Maum Meditation levels. Cults usually try to cut you off from your friends and family because they hate others being able to influence you. So what is this maum meditation ? My opinion its a destructive cult. Do search on the internet and you will find many cases and testimonials of ex Maum meditation members, calls for help from kids, spouses, friends about losing loved ones to Maum Meditation.

How did I awakened from this Maum meditation dream? More you progress in Maum Meditation levels more some cultic signs start appearing, thats where a lot of people start leaving the group. My expirience was more painfull, but I realised that Maum Meditation is about money and recruiting more people who will bring more money to the organization, Inelia’s Benz article for me was like a breath of fresh air. I just realised what the truth is, what is true freedom of mind and soul, we just can’t pay a fee and meditate our self to salvation or enlightenment, I wish this for everyone, for Maum Meditation helpers and for everyone who got in to a similar group or organization.

As old Korean quote says 김치국부터 마시지 말라 “Don’t drink the Kimchi soup first”, my advice for those who just discovered Maum meditation- don’t jump ahead of your self, don’t think you found the right method before you will do research about Maum meditation group, read testimonials of people who left the group, read what is mind control, find information about destructive cults and what they do.
Here is few questions

Does Maum meditation operates using deception ? Is it true that when you first sign up they don’t tell you about a large sum of money you will have to pay for the “culmination process” (also called “chana education” to receive “human completion”)with the Maum meditation founder?
Does Maum meditation needs to hide the truth until they think you are ready to accept it? If people knew their true practices and beliefs beforehand then they would still join them or not?
Is it true that after completing few levels (and when they think you are ready) Maum meditation helpers ask for $1000 Sky fund donation so that their group founder can remove your deceased family members from purgatory ?
Is it true that to finish and pass level 4, you have to accept and be certain that Maum meditation founder and his wife are creators of the Universe?
