Mini Magnetosphere

Which leads us neatly onto the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK, which has devised a “mini magnetosphere” that essentially recreates the protection provided by the Earth’s magnetic field. The scientists have so far used the magnetosphere to protect a scale spacecraft from radiation (pictured right, in a plasma stream), and they’re now working on a concept spacecraft, called Discovery, with a full-scale magnetosphere that could theoretically take humans to Mars.

This IMO would also be useful n relation to exploring and mining Asteroids.

As well as perhaps emergency shelters on both the Moon and Mars.

Ok..Is is just me, or should we not be naming the first manned vehicle to Mars: Enterprise?

The magnetosphere concept is pretty cool.

Consider a land vehicle like a Car or Train, protected with this kind of technology and used on the Moon or Mars?

What about a Domicile?

Yes t is and its potential goes well beyond space-craft.

I feel we should save naming a ship "Enterprise", until we develop the warp bubble.

I see the implication that separatism as expressed in nomenclature is overemphasized.

Great as an anti-EMP device. People who think machines could never rule the earth because of their flaws never considered the possibility of this technology.
