If CNN says Hong Kong’s in Brazil, it must be so!

Oh geez so the graphics person slapped the wrong hemisphere up under the label and the producer didn't notice. It happens to them all. Crawls are notorious for mistakes too. Happens all the time.

You know the anchor can't really see it, right? Unless they happen to glance at a pretty small monitor. The anchor sees a green screen.

Of cours they do. The best are aired live. One of my favorites was when Fox News was doing a report on traditional marriage while using a graphic of a lesbian couple in the background...

I'm not blaming the anchor for this, but this is why they are supposed to have people in the back who check and check this stuff again before it goes up. You know, QC ... quality control. And when you are talking about printed articles, they call us editors.

Things move very fast in a new room. Sometimes humans (producers, graphics people, teleprompter people, crawl people) have to blink and sometimes it's at the wrong time. I interned at CNN for a minute way back and it's insane. I could never do that day in and day out.

You would NOT believe the things that almost get on air.

I work in a deadline environment, too, so yes, you might be surprised at what I would believe.

I watch the local news every day. They screw up sometimes. It makes for good conversation. We get to laugh about their screwups, reinforcing the fact that everyone screws up once in a while. The only one that is perfect is the perfect screwup.
