This seems a bit odd. Is this usual?

When was the BBC web site down?

The CBC and CNN television were both down on the 18/7/2014, the night of the shootdown, between the hours of 0230 and 0800.

All American networks on my Canadian cable supplier were displaying a still image from the broadcast that had been airing at the time of the lock-up.

Non-news, Canadian shows were NOT affected.

There is NO precedent for this happening anytime in my recollection.

There was DEFINITELY something very "odd" going on and if BBC resurrected an outdated image to use during this first night after an ACT OF WAR by Russia it was, without a doubt, a CODE.

Next time you see a 'Green Clown' on a shutdown BBC, you may wish to make your way to a tube station.

The image wasn't 'resurrected' at all - it's the BBC's standard 505 error code image. They've used it for years - you just don't see it very often.

The Beeb's homepage was down for about 10 minutes, BBC News and everything else was functioning so the homepage had probably suffered an index error.

Yes, really. And as a previous poster explained it's an old British joke.

You really need to learn to lighten up and not see EVERYTHING as a conspiracy.

I'm sure you have been long enough to know you are talking to a brick wall! I logged on this morning noted the error (they happen from time to time) and thought oh sh.t that means we are now going to get a gadzillion theories linking what is just a cock-up (somebody in IT has) with either Ukraine or Gaza cover up....or maybe both!!
DAH DAH, prediction came true. Maybe I should predict the end of the world. Hey maybe that's why the BBC front page is screwed. The world is ending tomorrow.

They only drag it out after acts of war.

Any proof for that?

Why would they do that anyhow?

It was down when I made the post, and I think it's still down now..well there's a simplified version of it up. You can still get to the news part though.

They are probably trying to put the fire out and locate the clown.

Perhaps they're contemplating climbing Mount Niitaka?

the BBC is just a massive propaganda network

they show a creepy doll (artificial person) with the background in flames (destruction) for an "error message"

that seems normal enough to me

The BBC used to have what was called a Test Card with line's and pattern's in the centre of the image was a circle with a young girl (The very image of my sister christine) and a Doll, that is the Doll on your image, there never used to be flame's behind it though and back when the TV ended at midnight and started as 8am during the night the Test Card was sometimes shown, it helped you calibrate you TV much like we use monitor calibration screen's today.

en.wikipedia.org...

I used to shout at the Telly "Kiddines on the Telly" because the girl really was the image of my sister, mind I was only about 4 at the time so I am going right back to about 1974.

Still that is were they got the image from.

One doll if by land, two if by sea.
