Steel structures collapsed at the construction site of a residential complex Korkem in the city of Astana, 18 people were injured in the incident. Novosti-Kazakhstan reported with the reference to city's department of Emergency Ministry. "As many as 18 people were injured, according to preliminary data," the press release said. Rescue bodies were informed about the incident at about 9 a.m. local time. The rescuers recovered four people from rubble upon arrival to the construction site. The remaining steel sheets of metal construction had been fixed. Two witnesses of the collapse received psychological aid. Currently rescue workers and representatives of regional authorities, Korkem residential complex and work safety continue working on site.

At the accident site, "a section of the sites' metalwork and several metal sheets broke-down and fell." "...metal sheets that were hanging by a thread" were fastened back in place.
Two witnesses experienced "a bad shock" and 25 additional "shocked witnesses had to be checked by doctors as well."
A construction company spokesperson stated that it was scaffolding that broke down and fell. He did not offer an explanation for the metal sheets and construction debris that also fell.

Metal beams that had formed the frame of the building’s roof were bent, twisted and sagged toward the ground.
“I just heard the bending of the steel ... I looked up and could see it (caving in),” said Lowe, adding he had talked with the victim “about the weather” moments before the collapse.
Rowe said never in his 13 years in the trade had he seen anything like it, and referred to his job as “dangerous” by its very nature.
