Protesters in Niteroi blame police for the killing of 21-year old Anderson Santos Silva. They say Silva died while trying to protect his mother and 9-year-old sister from bullets from a gunfight involving police.

Media reports say military police have denied any wrongdoing. They say a stray bullet killed Silva during a clash between police and suspected drug traffickers.

Angry protesters in Brazil burn buses over killing

Anderson Santos Silva was on his way to church for Good Friday.

He was buried on Saturday.

Sunday protesters set fire to a truck and two cars, along with the four passenger buses.

In my opinion we are not the only country fed up with militarized police waging war on so-called drug dealers.

England has already solved this problem by treating drug addiction as what it is. A health care problem. Not a criminal one. Addicts receive their fix from a credentialed doctor.

We are reaching a tipping point, and the militarized police are going to be one of the things that pushes the people out of their inaction! If you follow the doom porn they will lead you to believe that the police will be able to control the masses, this I believe to be complete and utter nonsense, simply one of the controlling memes that is pushed to keep those who will belive it in a state of fear. With every unjustified death we inch closer to the masses rising up and those on the police force with any sense of moral deceny rising with us to overthrow the corrupt system that is before us!

One man died when his motorcycle struck a police armored vehicle.

One of the victims, identified as 17-year-old Emanoel Gomes, died on April 18, when his motorcycle hit an armored police vehicle in a nearby area.

Here we can see the Niteroi slums right next to an expensive resort.

Plenty of money in Rio for the World Cup and armored vehicles for military police,
but no money for people. Families. Homes.

FIFA and the Olympics really need to quit giving dangerous countries international events.

Would YOU take YOUR family to Brazil for the World Cup or Olympics in that climate?

During the Formula 1 season, Brazil was the one race where teams encouraged drivers families NOT to come. I dont know if it is the same now, but I dont see the circumstances any different from years past. It is worse if anything.

When you have rich and poor and almost no middle class, this is what happens. The beginnings of a middle class in Brazil is hanging on to hope more than anything that they wont slip back into poverty.

Spooky stuff.

Oh, they will get families to go.

In the information age the white-washing is easy.

For instance.

Do a google image search for Niteroi...

One will find pages and pages of beautiful results just like this.

Unless the word "slums" is explicitly typed in, one would never get the idea of what the neighborhood is really like.

Erm, you might be a bit off the mark there fella.

While drug addicts do have access to treatment, being in possession of heroin, crack or even pot is still a criminal offence and punishable by up several years in prison - albeit, most, especially first time offenders, get a street caution.

I believe the riots here, whilst nominally as a result of the killing of the young man are actually the fruits of a much longer running and deeply ingrained problem, especially when you look at the wealth gap between those in the cities and those in the slums. It has been exacerbated recently by the Brazilian Government trying to "clean up" the Favella's for the upcoming FIFA World Cup and the Olympics in 2016.

Agreed.

The really surprising thing in England with the harder narcotics, was that after addicts could get access to a predictable and reliable supply they became functioning members of society again. Yes having it on "the streets" is still illegal, but now there is a healthy alternative.

Where as in Brazil, and many other countries, this easily solvable problem is used as a wedge issue instead. Used to frighten the wealthy, and marginalize entire neighborhoods of the poor. Government via divisiveness and fear.

This is what happens when politics eats our doctors.

Not only in Rio, all over the country.
Plenty of money for stadiums, plenty of money for the security during the world cup. It's said here that the army will be in the cities to prevent riots during the world cup. The government is worried.

That is what I am finding as well.

Is it now fashionable for the wealthy around the world to use militarized police to keep the poor in their place?

And they couldn't even have started this arms race with criminals if they hadn't made a medical condition into a criminal one.

The owners of the earth have substituted body armor and bullets for prescriptions.

Perhaps violence has _always_ been their prescription.
And lies. Can't forget all the lies.

... and two days later this pops up on youtube.

He sings about every "woman, boy, and girl."

Except the dead one. Except that one. yeah.

Looks like a lot of money was spent to get everyone
fired up about the World Cup.

Still no money for poor people,
or bereaved mom's,
even if shot by the Polícia.

Then I looked again at all the acts of oppression which were being done under the sun. And behold I saw the tears of the oppressed and that they had no one to comfort them; and on the side of their oppressors was power, but they had no one to comfort them. So I congratulated the dead who are already dead more than the living who are still living. But better off than both of them is the one who has never existed, who has never seen the evil activity that is done under the sun.

If anyone thinks I have something against the wealthy,
I don't.

The wealthy suffer tragedy and great falls as well, but when it happens to them few care at all. That and vultures usually converge to feed on their estate.

No, it is the indifference of a media hypnotized electorate; the merciless actions of police, and the feeding frenzy of lawyers and insurers.

For instance, who made drugs illegal for a doctor to prescribe and manage? Was it the poor? Was it the wealthy?
