Every one has right to think what that want. But if any one don't agree with your opinion there is no reason to insult you.

It has been a couple years since I have been here, and this subject is the first place I go when I egress out of the humdrum, but I can see immediately this problem has not diminished. The problem is a universal one on the subject and I am afraid Springer has a herculean if not impossible task in keeping the volatile factions from exhorting their assumed right to say what they want, snipe, deride or purposely corrupt intelligent discussion or just be contrary.

I remember thinking that some transparency would help with something like a "dislike" or polarity to the "like" stars. Then a general approval/disapproval score that would be stewarded by moderators.

Sure, you have groups who would pelt such indicators en mass to pad votes, but if each star and "X" lets say show originating members, these could easily be seen as clear efforts to skew statistic.

With a transparency of statistic would it be more obvious the inauthentic or trolling member? Or is this in danger of Orwellian type loss of freedoms?

In the microcosm of social universe that ATS is, it would be an interesting social experiment to try maybe.

When I first joined ATS I was such a cute innocent little tyke!

If I wanted to post about UFOs, I did the strangest
thing - I chose the "Aliens and UFOs" forum,
typed some speculative stuff (about all anyone
can do) then clicked the appropriate button.

But I've since learned that there is a vast
global conspiracy to fill our skies to
overflowing with mylar balloons, chinese
lanterns and military flares.

Really we'd save a lot of time if we simply
renamed "Aliens and UFOs" to
""Mylar balloons, Chinese Lanterns and
Military flares" along with a mandatory
polling function so that we keep an
accurate count.

So on those very rare occasions I actually
want to contribute something not involving
Balloons lanterns and flares, I tack something
onto a post by the Gut, as we all like him.

I don't think I could bring nyself to start a
new post in the "Balloons and Flares"
forum to save my life, and I'm way beyond
caring what kind of reception I get.

I myself view stars and flags to be an overall
barometer of how many rabid idealogues are
represented on each of the common cliques,
and in fact have little or nothing to do with
the quality of the post.

In forums like "Aliens and UFOs" or
"Religious Conspiracies" to name just
two similar and notorious ones, I can
run a mental tally of who likely
voted which way, regardless of post
content. I'm sure most of us can,
and I'm still a newbie.

Now some people are classy and
S&F people for creativity or a good
effort, even if they markedly
didagree.

I guess I find S&F to be meaningless....
but it's too bad there is no way to
breathe some life into overly battle
scarred forums.

markedly didagree.
Star for the Freudian Slit!
I also like how you group your paragraphs together but I can only give you one star so I will find another post and star that one but only if it doesn't already have a star.
