Are there any examples of something like the Mandela Effect before it was named that?

What I mean is Nelson Mandela was born in the 1900s and we now call the effect after a discrepancy in his life story. Did similar effects happen before, and is this recorded anywhere in history? I've searched, but wonder if anyone here has any more knowledge than I have.

Some think the geography of the whole world has change, I guess you could call it the "Atlas Effect?":

Another place that quite a few people don’t remember existing before is the Canadian territory of Nunavut, which is the largest territory of Canada and is larger than Texas, California and France combined. Some people find this baffling, as they have never heard of it, and although it is a relatively new territory, being split from the Northwest Territories in 1999, it still is rather jarring for a surprising number of people. Perhaps even stranger is a country that was in existence from the Middle Ages all the way up until the 1800s, called Great Tartary. It was considered a major power at the time, and was vast in area, being even larger than Russia, positioned in the northern part of Asia and bounded by Siberia on the north and west. Although it is no longer a country, for such a large country with such an illustrious history it seems odd that so few people have ever heard of it, with many insisting that it never existed before.

My wife and I clearly remember when Hershel Walker played football for Tennessee, history clearly shows that he played for Georgia.

It used to be called the "Mendala Effect"...

The Elvis Sandwich.

Peanut butter, bacon and banana.

Some people swear blueberry jelly is involved, some people swear the ingredients included honey.

False memories and even shared false memories or collective misremembering are not new. The Mandela Effect is simply the latest term people use to describe the phenomenon.

I don't personally know anyone who thought Mandela died in Prison considering he was the leader of SA after his release.

Not sure what examples you are looking for from before this. But people misremembered things about 9/11, the Fatima sighting, JFK shooting, the moon landing, etc... All it takes is some misinformation, misunderstanding and suggestions to get someone tripping down a false memory and even believe it is what they have always believed. The human mind is fascinating that way.

Did similar effects happen before, and is this recorded anywhere in history? I've searched, but wonder if anyone here has any more knowledge than I have.

I actually have my own Mandela Effect story to tell,
and it actually happened in the month of November
years ago ,so I guess I'll tell of the strangeness that
I encountered then....

My story:

I bought a Dodge Caravan minivan new in 2003.
As with anything mechanical, time and use took
their toll on the vehicle. One day I heard some
clunking sounds while driving the Caravan over
some bumps. Turned out that the minivan needed.
Some new say bar links.

Now I am o.k with doing minor mechanical work
to my own vehicles . I've done brakes, exhaust,
starters radiators, shocks, etc. So I replaced the
sway bar links myself, and well they were not
the most expensive/best quality ones.

A few years past and the clunking sound returned.
It was November , and the vehicle inspection was
due on the Caravan. The weather was turning cold,
and my garage was unheated. I was not in the mood
for replacing the sway bar links again at that time.
So I planned on taking the van in for inspection
with bad sway bar links, hoping that they would
just check the tires / brakes and pass me , and tell
me maybe "You passed but your sway bar links need
replaced" And then I would clunk my way through
Winter until Spring.

But before scheduling the inspection, I wanted
to get under the van and determine that there was
nothing glaringly wrong that might cause me to fail
the inspection, and I wanted to confirm too that it
was the sway bar links going bad again.

So I got under the Caravan with my flashlight
and I found that the driver side sway bar link was
detached at the top end . I even grabbed it with
my hand and moved it around. The sway bar link
is basically a metal rod with a ball joint at each end.
The top ball joint had failed and popped out of the
socket. Well, I had my doubts about passing the
inspection once I saw that.

So I decided to replace the sway bar links as
soon as possible and before the inspection , and
not wait until Spring .

However..... I did something a little bit unusual.
I wanted heavier duty links this time and I found
some adjustable length sway bar links that were
designed for Jeep owners who wanted to raise
the height of their Jeeps.

"But you have a Dodge Caravan though, right?"
you ask. Correct . Didn't I say I was going to do
something "different"?

Oh , and by the way, the company that manufactured
these sway bar links called them their "Mountain Goat
Series". This I thought was a sign from the heavens,
Since my Caravan had the Dodge Ram head logo
on the front.

O.K. so I order these parts on Ebay and they arrive.
I jack up the van , take off the tire on the driver side,
and..... NO BROKEN SWAY BAR LINK !!!!!
The link was completely intact! No pooched top
ball joint!

I have no logical explanation for this. None.
Anyway the Mountain Goat Series sway bar links
worked great, even if using them got me sent to
this parallel universe. I guess that might be what
happens when somebody does something "different"?
So there it is, my Mandela Effect encounter.

P.S.
Sorry if this is a hard read .
My paragraphs are indented when I edit,
but indentation is lost when I post.
What's the fix?
I'm using Linux/Firefox.

P.S.S.
Decided to just add spaces between paragraphs.

Ever hear of the man from Taured?

Back in 1954 a man landed at Tokyo Airport, he had the full passport, and it was stamped from much travel of a nation that simple did not exist, the nation of Taured which was somewhere in his reality roughly were the tiny country of Andora is today.

Though there was a previous stamp from a previous visit to Japan in his passport and it seemed real the airport staff had never heard of this nation which left the man furious as he claimed his nation was very important and extremely wealthy (think Switzerland but in the Pyrenees' and bigger and actually a powerful nation).

He was taken to a hotel and a police officer stationed outside but while he never left the hotel room and could not have left by the Window he vanished, poof as if into thin air.

Like he had stepped from one reality into another and had the worst Mandella effect of them all, I hope he went back to his own reality but if not and this was some kind of reality collapse, he then simply ceased to exist as reality righted itself but the reside of his existence remained in the meeting, he had with the airport staff and the police in Tokyo.

Now the story may be and probably is an urban legend but then again maybe there is reality to it.

Is reality fixed, is it dynamic, are we creatures that span more than one reality, perhaps even sometimes when we act out of character it is not really us, or not the us we know but fragments of other versions of us being jammed together as reality's collapse, or they die in other realities.

Or it could all be hocus pocus.

They used to stick people that claimed these things in such places as bedlam insane asylum and worse and it even drove many people mad as they tried to make sense of their concrete reality suddenly not being so concrete.

A guardian angel perhaps, you were shown something that would have happened, and it would have happened while you were driving, someone showed you, stopped you and kept you safe OR it was a reality shift of some kind.
